  All the U-boats assigned to the 10th were of the TYPE IX. The 10th had the Variants IXC,IXC/40,XB and XIV.  The advantage of the TYPE IX series was their better habitability and high torpedo capacity, which enabled them to stay out at sea longer than the 750-Ton TYPE VII boats. There were 80 TYPE IX assigned to the 10th.
